Sleep is the key to high performance…

3 Supplements That Will Help You Sleep Like a Baby…

I’ve talked about the importance of sleep in many of my blogs!

Quality sleep helps boost our performance across the board, at work, at home, in the gym you name it!

The benefits of good sleep are tenfold such as emotional regulation, improved immune system, better memory, more energy, to name but a few benefits!

I’d recommend checking out this blog for more tips on how to improve your sleep. I would also recommend reading the book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker – it’s incredible!

Small Changes Lead To BIG results…

Applying a bunch of small strategies can dramatically improve your sleep, things such as:

  • Taking a warm bath before bed
  • Eating a healthy and nutritious diet
  • Managing stress
  • CBD oil has shown to be an excellent sleep aid
  • Avoiding TV and phone lighting 1-2 hours before bed
  • Wearing a sleeping mask

To compliment the above I’m also a HUGE fan of using supplements, and that’s what I’m going to be covering in this post.

WARNING: Make-sure to speak to your doctor before adding in any new supplements to your diet

Why I Started Taking Sleep Supplements?

A couple of weeks ago my sleep was really suffering. I was waking up throughout the night – i’d pop to the bathroom and anxiously rustle around my bed until I fell back to sleep!

I was waking up feeling very tired and my performance in the gym suffered (I was also pretty grumpy around the house!)

BUT for the last 2 weeks i’ve slept like baby and the only thing i’ve added into my routine is 3 things…

3 Supplements That Will Help You Sleep Like a Baby…

#1 Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body that helps control our sleep and wake cycles. At night time, when it’s dark the body naturally produces melatonin which then signals to the body to prepare for sleep.

By supplementing the body with extra melatonin you are increasing your chances of a better nights sleep.

How I’m Taking: I take 1 drop of melatonin 1hr before bed.

#2 Magnesium Glycinate

Magnesium glycinate is often used because it is the best-absorbed form of magnesium and one of the gentlest on the stomach. The supplement has been reported to help people with type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, migraines, depression and those with sleep disorders such as insomnia.

How I’m Taking: I take 600-800mg (6-8 caps) of magnesium glycinate 1hr before bed.

#3 Zinc Picolinate

Zinc has been proven to help regulate sleep, and improve the vividness of dreams. It also plays an important role in regulating the immune system, and maintaining thyroid function. It’s one of the trace minerals that your body requires to maintain optimal health and in my opinion it’s a ‘must buy’ supplement.

How I’m Taking: I take 50mg (1 tablet) 1hr before bed.
