A Throbbing Evil Headache!!!

6 Simple Tricks to cure a hangover - How to get rid of a dreadful hangover - by sheffield personal trainer nickeh screetoni

So the other day I woke up with a stinking hangover! You know the one’s where you feel as though you’ve got a miniature Mike Tyson in your head, repeatedly thumbing your temple? Man that feeling sucks! I don’t often drink (a few times a year) but when I do I go pretty crazy, kind of like back to the good old student days – you know where you say your only having a light one, and then two, four, ten drinks later your dancing around like Bez from the ‘Happy Mondays’ and acting like a lunatic!

Well it was ‘Tramlines’ in Sheffield last weekend, it’s one of the city’s biggest events, it’s a music festival with loads of cool bands playing. Anyhow I polished of 10 whiskey and coke’s and ended up feeling absolutely shockingly horrific the next day. I needed Marry Poppins to fly over  with her umbrella and give me some magic potion!

In this post i’m going to share 6 Simple Tricks to Cure A Hangover. I used these tips on Sunday and by the late afternoon I was feeling back to my usual self. Give them a try next time your heads pounding from one too many alcoholic beverages!

6 Simple Tricks To Cure a Hangover …

6 Simple Tricks to cure a hangover - How to get rid of a dreadful hangover - 6 tips to help you get over a bad hangover

1) Up Your Water Intake

One of the reasons why your head pounds like a base drum is due to the fact that your seriously dehydrated. Alcohol is a diuretic which makes you go to the bathroom and flush out fluid. I’d recommend gulping down at least 4 litres of water the next day. I did 8 litres on Sunday after my Tramlines experience and it really helped.

2) Take A Borocca

When you drink lots of alcohol your body flushes out essential vitamins and minerals, leaving you weak and energyless. By placing a dissolvable Borroca tablet in your water you will quickly replace essential vitamins needed to cure your hangover. Borocca’s contain 8 different B vitamins (essential for energy), vitamin C (To help repair the body) and zinc (to boost your immune system). I’d recommend adding 2 borocca tablets into your water and sipping throughout the day.

3) Do Some Cardio

When you start to feel brighter in the afternoon, after you’ve re-hydrated… it’s time to sweat out some of those toxins with a good old fashioned cardio workout! You could go for a run in the great outdoors or pay a visit to the gym. The aim is to get a good sweat on, remove toxins, and revitalise the body by pumping blood around it. If your stuck for workout ideas check out all the FREE Workout’s I have on my site. Here’s a quick one you could try..

4) Sweat It Out

If your not up for working out, you could use the steam or sauna room to help you flush out toxins. This will help you sweat out all the rubbish and make your skin feel healthier. If you want a double whammy of ‘toxin eradication’ then you could workout and then do a post steam/ sauna session. Just make-sure to drink plenty of water when your in there. I’d recommend drinking at least 1 litre of water per 10 minutes. How long should I go in there for? For me 5-10 minutes works very well (maybe slightly longer if your braver!)

5) Eat Your Fruit

After a booze infested day/evening it’s likely that you’ve overindulged on the calorie scale, if not from the alcohol alone, then from the food you consumed under the influence! I always end up buying a Dominoes or Mc Donalds (not good I know!). By eating fruit you’ll consume minimal calories, as well as replacing essential vitamins and minerals. My favourite fruits to cure a hangover are oranges, apples and any type of berries – as they are high in antioxidants.

6) Take a Magnesium Bath

Ahh! probably my favourite. I usually take a magnesium bath at the end of the day. I’ve already started to feel better thanks to following the other 5 tips and this final tip is the icing on the cake (so to speak!). It’s time chill out, let the magnesium salts soak into your tense muscles as you relax into a  warm bath. I’d recommend doing this late afternoon/early evening. Again sipping on plenty of water and taking time to chill. A good 10-20 minute soak should do the trick.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and remember to use these tips next time your hungover! I promise they’ll work their magic and you’ll be feeling back to normal in no time! Save this post in the ‘notes’ section of your phone or add it to your ‘Favourites’ list so you have these tools in your arsenal next time your feeling on the delicate side!
