3 Qualities That All Successful Personal Trainers Have…
03/10/2018Since starting LEP Fitness (just over 6 years ago!) i’ve completed over 10,000 x 1-1 personal training sessions, alongside the experience which i’ve built up over the years, i’ve also attended lots of training courses, not only in relation to health and fitness, but also covering a wide array of topics like ‘psychology’ and ‘self development’ – all because I want to get better at my craft!
I’ve learned a great deal from some of the best coaches in the fitness industry…
Successful Personal Trainers…
The most successful personal trainers in the industry right now are there for a reason, they work hard and have lots of experience. They know how to market themselves, provide great content and most importantly… make a positive impact on thousands of people lives. They have drive, passion and are commited to constant and never ending improvement – this is what makes them stand out from your average Joe PT!
In this post i’d like to share with you some of the things that i’ve learned over the last 6 years and tell you about the 3 Qualities That All Successful Personal Trainers Have…
So that you can copy them and improve your own life and business…
#1 Hunger To Learn, Learn, Lean (and then learn some more!)
Every coach that i’ve looked up to during my career has a keen DESIRE TO LEARN, despite how good they are at what they do, they still have this burning desire to learn more, be better and provide more value.
This has been one of the best habits that i’ve copied from my mentors…
Over the last 6 years i’ve read at least 20 books per year. I have learned tons, and it’s benefited me personally and also helped me to grow my personal training business.
I remember when I first started to get into ‘self development’ and I came across some Tony Robbins books. Those books like ‘Awaken the Giant Within’ and ‘Unlimited Power’ totally transformed my mindset and consequently my life!
At the time of me reading his work I was smoking 40 cigarettes a day (I know…crazy right?) thanks to his motivating words I made a decision that I was going to finally quit within 2 months and never look back! I used a JUUL Starter Kits first and then eventually stopped – i’ve not had a cigarette for 5 years! This is just one example of how books have helped change the course of my life.
Commit to learning everyday, and DO IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE – whether that’s reading a book for 20 minutes each day, or listening to an audiobook on your way to the gym, just do it!
#2 Hire Mentors (learn from people who know more than you!)
All the great coaches that i’ve been mentored by have their own mentors too! or have had lots of mentors over the years. In order to take yourself to the next level the best thing to do is hire a coach who’s got the experience and can save you hours and hours of headaches and potentially years of mistakes!
If you’re trying to grow your personal training business then hire a mentor who knows how to run a successful PT business, somebody like Mark Coles or Phil Learney.
Successful people learn from people better than them. Remember though that they all started out as young, junior apprentices… but over the years have acquired their knowledge from working in the trenches, gaining hands on experience and also from learning from wise mentors.
If you want to increase your earnings, build a better business and improve your coaching skills then hire a mentor to help you speed up the process.
#3 Work Bloody Hard
This might be pointing out the obvious but the best personal trainers work harder than your average PT. They don’t just do sessions for the day and then go home and watch TV every night or pop to the local pub… NO instead they spend extra time studying, invest in private courses, hire mentors, read books, improve their service, go the extra mile for clients, write fitness blogs and articles, etc, etc. They work extremely hard, sometimes 10-12 hours per day!
If you want to be one of the best you have to be prepared to work harder than anybody else. You’ve got to make sacrifices and push yourself to the limit.
