Change Your Body Language To Transform Your Body Shape…
09/01/2018I don’t know about you but I absolutely love people watching?
I could literally sit in a city centre and just people watch all day!
You see the proffesional men and women going to work, the old having a cup of tea and cake in a coffee shop, mums, dads, children playing- running around with beaming smiles, and what about the eccentric dressers, with tattoos, dreadlocks, and quirky clothes?
I think you can tell a lot about a person by just watching and observing their body language. Confident people stand tall, like basketball players, whereas unconfident people hunch over like Quasimodo, avoiding eye contact!
You see this at the gym too, you’ve got the confident guys and women, lean, fit, and hardly wearing any clothes (vests and lycra pants!)
Then in the other corner you see an overweight person, puffing away on the bike and looking rather socially uncomfortable!
Ok, so what’s this got to do with transforming your body shape?
Well, actually as it turns out a lot!
Body Language and Behaviour…
Your body language influences your thoughts and your behaviour. When you stand up tall, with your shoulders back you are communicating confidence, not only to others but to yourself.
On the flip side, when you cross your arms, fail to make eye contact and walk around anxiously, what do you think you are communicating to yourself and others?
One of the things I experience with new clients who want to lose weight is their lack of confidence, their body language literally says it all!
It’s great to strive to improve your outside appearance, by exercising and dieting but if you fail to work on improving your body language and mindset then typically you will revert back to old ways very quickly…
You see this every year, when in January millions of people go on a detox, join a gym and endeavour to lose weight and improve their health and fitness. The problem is that most people have already quit by February!
One of the best ways to change your mindset is to change your body language, striking what Amy Cuddy calls power poses….
It’s been proven that holding these power poses for 2 minutes can positively alter the chemicals in your brain, making you feel more confident and helping to improve performance.
Whereas the powerless poses produce the opposite effect….
I would highly recommend watching the Amy Cuddy video below for more amazing information on this subject:
The Ultimate Combination For A Successful Body Transformation…
In order to achieve a successful body transformation I believe you have to combine to following 4 things…
- Tailored Exercise Program – working towards your specific goal(s) and targeting the areas of your body that you want to improve
- Nutritional Plan – again tailored towards your goals and lifestyle
- Mindset Practice – time spent working on your brain. Things like repeating positive affirmations, meditating, reading, listening and watching inspirational material.
- Body Language Training – mentioned in this post. Practicing power poses for 2-5 minutes per day to improve confidence both externally and internally
If you repeatedly work on the above 4 things everyday you will achieve an amazing transformation.
