How Hard Should I Train in the gym? featuring Goldilocks and the 3 bears…
09/05/2016Goldilocks and the 3 bears…
This post is relevant to all except athletes!
One mistake I see all too often is people pushing too hard in the gym.
It’s usually (not always!) people who don’t train for months and then decide they need to lose 3 stone in a week!
Like with most things you need to build up your tolerance.
What most people should be aiming for is an area that lies just outside of their comfort zone.
Take goldilocks and 3 bears for example…
You don’t want your porridge too cold (training too easy) and likewise you don’t want it too hot (training too difficult) you want it just right.
You should leave your workouts feeling tired and worked out but not absolutely annihilated.
As you continue to workout consistently you can then up your volume, train for longer and more frequently.
For a beginner training 3-4x per week for 30-45 minutes is a very good starting point.
Moral of the story…
Take small steps, push yourself slowly and be consistent. As time goes on and you build up your tolerance you can up it to another gear.
